Mic-Mic & Mao-Mao

Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao is a company that designs and manufactures climbing frames and scratching posts for cats and other pet furniture. All our products are made by hand to order, from real wood, which is why they are extremely high-quality and long-lasting. Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao or Danijela and Željko are a married couple who were united by their love for cats and have recently become parents of a son, Dominik.
Željko has a master's degree in criminology and has been working in the Zagreb Police Department in the Criminal Police Department since 2005. From a young age, he liked to work at his father's workshop and make various things. The idea to make climbing frames and scratching posts came when he adopted a cat because he wanted a quality and stable scratching post, so he decided to make it himself. In 2012, the hobby became a business under the name Mao-Mao and the first orders began.
Danijela graduated from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb during which, from 2012 until today, she has been teaching students and pupils in mathematics, statistics, accounting and other courses. Due to his love for mathematics and programming, he is currently studying Computer Science at Jurja Dobrila University in Pula.
Danijela has always loved animals and helped stray cats and dogs, and in 2017 she started an initiative called Mic-Mic where she published their stories on social networks.

And then a special cat Rambo appeared who is mainly responsible for the origin of the Mic-Mic & Mao-Mao story! :)

One day Danijela met a sad tiger cat in the street that was being fed by neighbors because someone had abandoned it. She decided to help him and take him, but by the time she came to get him, the cat had disappeared. He bothered many neighbors because he got sick, so one neighbor, as the rumor goes, put him in a box and took him somewhere. Danijela looked for him inconsolably for days, which eventually turned into months. Sometimes we all get that feeling and "voice" that tells us to do something or warns us about something. A few months later, in the spring of 2018, it was snowing and colder than ever. Danijela decided that she had to go to another settlement to feed the street cats and set up houses for them. When she was coming to meet her, a sad tabby cat that could barely walk through the snow was coming to meet her. And that was him - Rambo.

With that encounter, his suffering ended forever. He got the name Rambo because he is a real warrior. Although he was very weak and sick and was diagnosed with FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus) - known as feline AIDS, Rambo recovered very quickly physically, but he remained sad and his gaze was on the floor for months. Although cats with "feline AIDS" can live a long time with quality care, city shelters unfortunately automatically euthanize them, and the same was proposed for Rambo because of his health and aggression. Rambo was not mean, but traumatized and distrustful of people, and his defense mechanism was anger and attack on man. Instead of a negative reaction and anger, Danijela would just hug him or give him his favorite treat, after which he would calm down. Understanding and love bore fruit and Rambo's confidence grew, sadness disappeared from his eyes and he showed what he always was - a beautiful and smart cat full of love. And his gaze was never in the direction of the floor, but upwards in the direction of the stars, because that is exactly what he became through his story, winning the hearts of many people.

When Danijela was looking for a babysitting service for Rambo or the other cats, it was difficult and almost impossible to find, so she came up with the idea of opening her own business for the same. In search of the best scratchers and climbers to furnish the space, she asked for recommendations and received a recommendation for Mao-Mao from several sources.

That's how Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao met in 2020 and soon became a couple. As they were complementary in "cat" business, the logical step was a business partnership, which was followed by the merger and creation of Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao. The main inspiration was Rambo and his story, and especially his ears, which people once showered with ugly comments.

Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao thought that Rambo was a real inspiration and that his ears were special, beautiful and a reminder that he had emerged victorious from his battle.

Rambo's ears are our trademark, the logo of our company and all products are designed after his ears.

Each product can be personalized in various ways as desired and by agreement. One such scratcher called "Rimtimtagidim" was specially designed for Marko Purišić, also known as Baby Lasanga.

The beauty of this story lies in the irony of the fact that a cat that no one wanted in their home until today has entered many homes throughout Croatia and abroad through its products.

The most popular are Rambo polygons, which are made up of a combination of various elements that are mounted on the wall - shelves, houses and scratching posts.

Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao successfully apply their formal education, knowledge and work experience in this business so that they do all the work themselves. While together they make all the decisions, ideas and come up with product design, Željko's talented hands are responsible for the realization of each product that all he makes it by hand. Danijela is in charge of creating and managing the web shop and marketing activities.

The mission and vision of Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao is to use part of the profit from the company to finance socially useful projects that they realize themselves or collaborate with volunteers. Mic and Mao are not an association, nor will we ever be, but the philosophy is that when they find an animal in need - they will always help because it is not humane to turn your head and walk away.

There are currently 46 cats that were once abandoned under the care of Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao. All cats are funded solely by Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao profits.

In addition to cats, Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao also have three adopted dogs, three rescued guinea pigs whose fate was in doubt after the closing of a pet shop, a hamster that was rescued from a family that neglected it, and several fish. For the same reason, the range is planned to expand in the direction of products for dogs and rodents. :)

Mic-Mic and Mao-Mao are big fans of long trips, so they always have cat food with them wherever they go. :)

Rambo often travels with us, so he visited a large part of the Adriatic. :)

And in traffic, you can also recognize us by the Mic-Mao car of director Rambo, in which there is always at least one transporter or cat trap. :)
